What "researched, not tested" actually means
A product page or guide on this site is built by reading the manufacturer's technical documentation, checking those claims against independent engineering sources where they exist, and being explicit about which parts are verified and which parts are simply what the brand says. We don't run our own lab tests unless a specific article says otherwise.
The five kinds of information we work with
PrivacyLabz evaluates products and claims using five distinct source types, and every article makes clear which of these it is drawing on:
Independently verifiable physics, engineering principles, and technical standards that are not in dispute — how a Faraday cage works, what RF shielding does, and what a MIL-STD certification requires.
A specification or performance figure stated by the brand selling the product. Treated as a claim, not fact, and labeled as such until corroborated.
Results from an independent lab, publication, or reviewer who actually tested the product — cited and linked wherever we rely on it.
Patterns across real buyer reviews and feedback — useful for surfacing durability or usability issues, but never treated as a substitute for a technical claim.
Our own reasoning and conclusions built from the four sources above. This is where we say what we think — and where we're most likely to tell you a product isn't worth buying.
Physical testing disclaimers
If and when PrivacyLabz physically tests a product, that specific article gets an explicit "INDEPENDENTLY TESTED BY PRIVACYLABZ" tag at the top — no tag means the article is built from the five source types above, not hands-on testing.
Until then, every recommendation is an analytical synthesis based on physical engineering principles, documented specifications, and verified testing standards — not our own lab result.
